Baby Gift

Don't you just love making baby gifts? I do. They are so much fun and cute to create.

I think I mentioned earlier that I became an aunt again to a sweet baby boy. The perfect opportunity to make these.... bibs and burp clothes!

I don't have an embroidery machine so I just drew the letter "J" with my disappearing pen and appliquéd with a zigzag stitch and embroidery thread over it. Turned out not too bad... yes?



When I saw this flannel I knew I had to make it into a robot shape... it just had that element of robotness.(I don't think that is a word, but you get what I am saying... right?) I am quite pleased with myself as to how it turned out. I drew it freehand.



Anyways, not a lot of sewing going on these days other than above. I can say that I have made some accounting headway and I hope to get it under control soon... I mean I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If that is at all possible.

Since the holidays, I haven't been able to get my ass in gear. There is so much that I need to get done and I am moving at a snails pace. I think I am in that February funk and it isn't even February yet. I hope February moves as fast as January has. It has been soooo cold here, the sun rarely if at all comes out and we are on a snow advisory today (we are suppose to get a shit load...lucky us -eyes roll back..very grumpy). All I want to do is hibernate, now if we can just get thru February spring is right around the corner...yipee!

Last of the....

December gifts is this little zippered pouch. It's for a young girl who also had a birthday in December. However, she hasn't gotten it yet because she doesn't actually have her party til January or February. With all the hoopla over Christmas her mom feels that it is better to celebrate her birthday with her friends after the busy season is over.It's a fun little bag that I've had in the memory bank for awhile now and of course as I have said before the perfect opportunity to try it out.

It's black denim with accents and lining in red gingham. It has a large zippered compartment with a pocket in the front and a two pockets in the back.The strap is long enough to cross over your shoulder or simply keep it on one shoulder. I think it's a great bag for when you are going out and only need a few things, however, it is large enough to carry quite a bit, sling it over your shoulder and off you go. All in all I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. However, there are a few things that I would tweak if I was to make it again.

So, those are all the 2007 gifts... now onto 2008. I have already been busy making gifts and I will hopefully be able to show you them soon. I need to get them done and get back to work. This being off during the holidays has really slowed me down, however, it doesn't help when you have a sick little one at home and you are busy being Nurse Nightingale.

As for the accounting...ya right... still working on that, at a very slow pace. I am waiting for my accountant, no not the one that told me all the wrong information, my other one to answer a question. So you can't say I am procrastinating if I am actually waiting for some information... can you?

They Were a Hit!

Well, I was right! The little ones loved their Easter gifts. They had so much fun trying their aprons on and even more fun with the little wooden spoons I had with them. They all looked great all dressed and ready to bake. The moms thought that they were great too and seemed very excited to get into the kitchen with them. I love giving. It just makes me so happy to see others enjoy!



If I make them again I would definately change the sizing on them. The yellow one is too big for a 2 year old so I could make it smaller, although they grow so fast that it isn't too bad on and eventually he will grow into it. The rabbit one is definately too big for a 4 year old and even though she will grow into it I would have made this the same size as the blue one because that one fits perfect. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

Easter Buckets

All wrapped and ready to go! I am quite pleased with my Easter gifts and the idea I came up with. Hopefully, the little receipients will feel the same way.

Great Idea!

When I saw this and this, I knew I had to make them. But for who and what for…. I didn’t know. So I kept it in the back of my mind until I had an A-hah moment.... Easter is coming and I have nieces and nephews that I have to get something for. Why not an apron.? Great idea! But then I just can’t give them an apron…. It’s Easter. So then I saw these buckets at the dollar store, and it got me thinking. Apron, bucket, what am I going to do with these.... Cookies, of course! So I am making them each a basket full of goodies. An apron to wear when they bake, cookies to bake and a bucket to carry it all in. I am also of course going to put a little chocolate and some other goodies in…. it is Easter after all. Their mom’s love to bake with them, so I think this will be a hit.

The first two I did, I followed the tutorial regarding the measurements. But for those measurements, it makes it a good size apron for a child of ages 8-12 and then again, I would make it a bit smaller for the 8 year old. In fact, I tried it on and I could get away with wearing it. So after I made those two, I decided to make the other ones smaller. Considering they are for a 2 year old and a 4 year old. So I cut the material down to 21” (1” for the hem) and went in 5” on either side instead of 4” and kept the 9” down measurement. The piece I cut off was going to be thrown into the scrap pile until I had another A-hah moment and took it back and made it into a pocket. They all turned out pretty nice and I think all the kids are going to love them.

I went to a home décor store to get the tea towels and they were not cheap to buy, but I have to say when I opened them up I was not impressed. The fabric was not as nice as I first thought, in fact, it is the same fabric tea towels I saw at the dollar store minus the embroidery. And I wasn’t impressed with it there. Then the one with the ruffle I had to fix because they didn’t even sew it correctly/nicely. They had caught the ruffle/pleat at the top (see picture). So I had to rip out the stitch and resew it. Nothing major, but you would think you would get better quality considering where and what I paid for it. Just more proof to show that the care and time does not go into mass produced items.
