I was at the book store on Friday with the girls. They had gift cards they wanted to use up so it was a good excuse for me to look at the sewing magazines and books. I ended up actually buying a magazine, which was a treat to myself since I usually don't buy them. I couldn't resist though. Sew Simple had some good pointers and showed some great techniques that I have been wanting to learn. This one on Minky Dot fabric was interesting, although I knew most of the pointers since I have been working with the chenille for awhile now, but always good to find out what others think about it. Autum also had a good tip, which I found out when using it. DON'T WEAR BLACK OR ANY GOOD OUTFIT WHEN USING CHENILLE! You will be completely covered in it. This was a crib set I made for a client. White Micro-Chenille on one side. Flannel on the opposite. This is another technique they showed in the magazine that I have often wanted to learn about and use on some of my sewing. I can't wait to try it. Hand embroidery.
Along with those there are a bunch of other interesting things in the magazine. Some patterns on skirts, tops, pj's, applique, etc. You will just have to run out to get the mag to see them all.
Anyway on another note, I can't believe tomorrow is back to school. It feels like yesterday I was waiting for the last day. I blink my eyes and another year is about to begin. In one way it will be good to get back to some serious sewing, but I am not looking forward to the cold weather and homework and just having another schedule. We have had a great, busy summer and I will be sad to see it leave us. I am not a fan of winter or the cold so I warn you my posts might get a little grumpy.
