Yesterday

I had to go out yesterday to run an errand and to also stop in at a store. I was looking for a Christmas present. So I did my errand and then ran to the store. (I had to be back for lunch) I went there looking for a specific item and although they had what I was looking for, it wasn't exactly what I wanted (if you know what I mean). Anyway, since I was there I had to look around. I was glad I did because although I didn't get the one Christmas gift I was going there for I ended up getting another gift, that by fluke I never even knew what I was going to get this person and it just jumped out at me and said the perfect gift. I love when that happens. The gift is for one of my nephews, which I had no idea what I was going to get him and now I can cross him off my list because I got the perfect gift for him. Love that!

So now that I found that I was still checking out the rest of the store. Awhile back Becki at Artsy-Crafty Babe did a tutorial on potholders. I really need some new ones (ya think!) and have for awhile. I wanted to make them but never got around to it, so when I saw the tutorial, I knew I had to keep tha
t in mind.
So after looking around I found these on clearance. Love that! There's only one showing but there were 2 in the package. I thought the red would look good in my kitchen along with the linen colour blocking and there is also a stripe, if you look closely, in a taupey colour.I didn't really think of how it went together when I was buying it because when I following the tutorial, I ended up with this. Red is nowhere to be seen, other than the little peeking out from between the folds. That's OK though, because I like the way this looks too. If I wanted, and taken more time, it would have been perfect to appliqué something onto it or I could have used a decorative stitch, but I opted to just keep it simple.

For the most part, I followed the tutorial. The only thing I did differently was instead of cutting off the hem, I took it apart and squared the raw ends. I know not necessary, but I did. I also added a layer of felt inbetween the fold to give it extra insulation. (I am proned to burning my fingers, so every little bit helps.)

I only made the one so far. I can't decide if I should make a second or make an apron out of the second tea towel. I am thinking I might just make the second potholder and go back and get more to make the apron.... oh decisions decisions.

I have one other problem, the potholder looks so nice, I'm afraid to use it and get it all mucked up. So I may just be holding onto the old ones so I don't wreck the new ones. However, at $1.50 a potholder, I could just make more!

I so need to make some pot holders too. I love when you can come up with a perfect gift idea. Some people are so hard to buy for.
