It took a lot of time. More time then I thought it would take. But it is done and it turned out beautiful. The little girl came with her mom on Tuesday to try it on with her new white shoes. It fit perfectly and looked wonderful on her. She and her mom were thrilled.
It's made of white dupioni silk and fully lined with a crinolin underskirt. She russles when she moves in it. It is quite lavish and when the light hits it a certain way there is a beautiful sheen to it. What a lucky little girl. I am quite sure she will feel like a princess when she has it on.
I like this idea of a communion dress. I usually see dresses in the stores for little girls that actually look like wedding dresses. I never really liked them, kind of ridiculous, I think anyway. This dress is classic, simple and beautiful. I think it is perfect for the occassion. I even made a little white hairclip to match the dress.
If you have never worked with silk - it is beautiful to work with. It cuts out wonderfully and sews effortlessly. The only trouble I have with it, is initial cutting into it - you don't want to make a mistake with silk ...it is too costly. Once you start though, it gets easier. It's a kinda now or never thing. The other thing I noticed when working with it ( now don't laugh) was that when I pressed it with the iron it smelled like smoked meat. I kid you not. It really did. Not sure why, but it did.
Have a great weekend!

Beautiful!! My daughter has her 1st communion next week and I had dreams of making her dress, but it didn't happen. I do hope to get her veil made :-)
Thanks for sharing!
The dress is absolutely gorgeous. So very beautiful.
That is beautiful! Lily will be needing a communion dress in a few years, so I'll have to remember this.
