Harder than it Looks

Why is this so hard? I am usually pretty good at this too, so I don't know why I am having so much trouble. Or am I just making it hard because I am so obsessive? I am trying to make a patchwork baby blanket. My first try... never made one before. I have a baby christening to go to this weekend and thought it would be nice to make one, you know special.. keepsake. So I had the idea in my head... the fabrics, colours and so forth and figured I could whip this up, no problem. Yah right! I started cutting out the sizes and laying them out and decided I needed to cut more. So I layed them out and didn't like where I was going, so I decided to cut more. Layed them out and decided I didn't like the whole layout and wiped the slate clean and started again. Tried a new pattern and decided that it was too small and cut some more. If I don't stop soon, the blanket is no longer going to be a small, easy, fun project, it is going to be the size of my 8' x 4' table. Not only am I having issues with the patchwork, I still have to decide what I am going to back it with... chocolate, pink or soft green minky-dimple chenille or do I use one of the cottons? AAAAAhhh I am so confused.

So anyway, I thought I would get some other opinions... that just made it worse... Sunshine and Sweetpea, althought they are usually quite helpful, did not help at all, other than to get me more confused. Then I thought husband could help. He is very mathematical and logical.... wrong again. He doesn't even like patchwork and couldn't even see past that to help me figure out a pattern! Oh the frustration.

All you patchwork blanket making sewers and even the non ....
I need help! I need a second opinion and any would be appreciated.

Pattern One: (not really liking this)

Pattern Two: (I kinda like what is going on here)Pattern Three: (This is what is on my table right now. It's OK and I might go with it, but I am thinking #2, but adding to it, as it is too small and I have all these squares cut anyway)

So that is what I have or at least what I took pictures of. If you think it should be totally different, please don't hold back.
