Well, I had my private shopping sale last night and what a bomb that was. Only two people showed up. I couldn't believe it, well maybe I could. The host had worked really hard to send out the invites and ask people to come. She said so many people said "yes", "great, would love to". Why do people do that if they have no intentions on coming? The host went to so much trouble. She had wine and cheeses and dips and opened her home to do this for me and no one showed up. Could it have been the weather? It was raining all night and most of the day, but why should that stop anyone, I mean, it is just rain. You won't shrink or anything. Wouldn't you be eager to get a friday night out to meet up with friends, have a glass wine and be able to casually shop and look at some wonderful things all in the comforts of a friends home and on top of that no kids to worry about? Not only did she do all that, but I worked my butt off trying to get ready for this. The constant sewing and trying to get everything done and organized so that I would have a variety of different things to (hopefully) please everyones tastes. It is very dishearting to do all that work, pack it up, unpack it, set it up and then have to turn around and pretty much pack everything I brought back again. I did sell some stuff, but not much to make it worthwhile that's for sure.
I do have another sale in a couple of weeks. This one will be much bigger at a public place. I am hoping for a good day, but always hold myself back, because it usually is somewhat disappointing. I never quite understand why though, because when I am there I get such positive feedback from people. They look at all my wares and love what they see, in fact they go gaga over it and then walk away. Why is that? I have studied the market in my area and surrounding. I was always concerned about my price point. But since looking at other vendors' prices, I know I am not high, in fact in some cases (most cases) cheaper. So tell me what am I doing wrong? I don't know. Maybe I just haven't found the right place with the right customers, but where are they? How do I find them, and how come others are being so successful at it? Maybe it is just time I need and the constant reminder to people that have become part of my client list that I am still here, have great stuff, so when they are looking for a special gift or need something for their home or child, they call on me. I did just recently get a big order from someone wanting a crib set and some other things. I am happy about that. But for now, I will just take it in stride and take what I get. Since I have so much stock, I can relax a little and do some of the sewing that I would really like to get to, like some gifts for family.

That stinks. Have you thought about trying to sell your stuff on etsy?
I can't offer any advice because I have never sold anything I've made. I usually just make things for my family or to give as gifts.
